Kolkata/Cooch Behar, Apr 15 :Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday intensified his attack on illegal infiltration during election campaigning in West Bengal, stating that while the Election Commission has acted against infiltrators in voter lists, stronger action is needed at the national level.
Addressing a rally in Tufangunj in Cooch Behar district, Shah said the larger task would be to remove infiltrators from the country’s borders and ensure stricter control in sensitive regions.
He claimed that the BJP, if voted to power in the state, would take immediate steps to strengthen border security along the eastern frontier.
“We will seal the country’s eastern borders in such a manner that even birds won’t be able to flap their wings around the fences,” Shah said
The Union Home Minister also accused the West Bengal government of not cooperating in providing land required for border fencing.
He alleged that around 600 acres of land needed by the Border Security Force (BSF) has not been made available.
.“Didi doesn’t want to give 600 acres of land to the BSF. Once we form the government, we will complete the fencing work within 45 days,” he said.
Shah further said that the Election Commission has already removed infiltrators from the electoral rolls in the state, but added that more comprehensive action is required to address the issue.
