Shillong April, 10 :State minister and BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai has urged voters in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region to elect a BJP Member of Parliament, saying stronger political representation at the Centre would help Meghalaya’s key issues move forward.

According to Shullai, having a BJP MP would improve the chances of implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state and securing recognition for the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. He maintained that concerns raised by members of the ruling party are more likely to receive attention at the national level.Speaking on development, the minister pointed to progress in BJP-led states, suggesting that Meghalaya has not yet fully benefited due to limited political support for the party.

He also remarked that previous governments, including those led by the Congress, did not bring substantial visible transformation. In comparison, Shullai said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, under Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and supported by the BJP, has made progress over the past eight years, particularly in infrastructure such as roads, schools and higher education institutions.

He further appealed to the electorate to give the BJP a clear mandate in the state Assembly by electing at least 31 MLAs, adding that the party should be allowed a full term to demonstrate its governance capabilities.
