
Shillong Police on April 11 conducted a late-night operation targeting alleged solicitation activities across major city locations, resulting in the detention of 16 individuals.
The raid, led by Additional SP (Traffic) Lovish Garg and SDPO Pynursla B. Wanswet, MPS, began around 11:30 PM and covered areas such as Police Bazar, IGP Point, and the Presbyterian Church surroundings.Officials said the move came after multiple complaints from residents regarding nuisance, inappropriate behaviour, and obstruction in public spaces.
During the operation, several individuals were reportedly found engaging in solicitation and approaching pedestrians, prompting police action.Police noted that such activities were impacting the decorum of prominent and sensitive locations within the city.
A case has been registered under Section 110 of the Meghalaya Police Act, and further inquiry is in progress.
