Rahul Gandhi accuses BJP of fueling Manipur unrest, says State “set on fire”

Tamil Nadu, April 21:Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the BJP of fueling unrest in Manipur, saying the state has been “set on fire.”

He made the remarks while addressing an election rally in Tamil Nadu.Gandhi said Manipur was once peaceful but has now seen prolonged violence and instability. He blamed the ruling party for failing to control the situation and protect people on the ground.Referring to the ongoing conflict, he said lives have been lost and many families continue to suffer as the situation remains tense.Gandhi also framed the issue as part of a larger political divide.

He said the current election is not just about power, but about two different ideas of India — one that respects the role of states, and another that tries to centralise control.He accused the BJP of creating fear among minorities and deepening divisions in society.

The Congress leader said his party stands for unity and harmony, and will continue to oppose politics based on hatred and violence.

His remarks come at a time when Manipur continues to face periodic tension following ethnic clashes that began in 2023.
