SHILLONG — Jadoh became the political backdrop on Monday as VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit took a swipe at Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma over his recent visits to Smit.
Basaiawmoit said Sangma, who he claimed rarely visited Smit earlier for Jadoh, has now become a more regular visitor. He alleged that the change was not simply about the Khasi rice-and-meat dish, but an attempt to weaken his political position in Nongkrem.
“This is only an attempt to weaken me politically,” Basaiawmoit said while distributing MLA schemes for 2025-26 at his residence in Nongkrem.
The VPP chief also looked beyond the immediate political exchange, saying his party would seek to form the government in 2028 and run the Secretariat on clean governance and protection of indigenous landowners.
“I hope people are wiser now than they were in the past. They will put the community first. It is no longer going to be an election of money,” he said.
He also urged supporters to ignore fake social media accounts targeting the VPP and said the focus should remain on the party’s political agenda.
