
Veteran playback icon cremated with full state honours at Shivaji Park
Mumbai, April 13: The nation bid an emotional farewell to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle as her mortal remains were consigned to flames with full state honours at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Monday.
Earlier in the day, her body was kept at her residence in Lower Parel, where fans, admirers and members of the film and music fraternity gathered to pay their last respects.Her son performed the last rites in the presence of close family members.

A large number of dignitaries, including political leaders, film personalities and musicians, attended the funeral to honour the iconic singer whose voice shaped generations of Indian music.Among those present were Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, members of the Thackeray family, MP Supriya Sule, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, and several prominent figures from the entertainment industry.Tributes also poured in from across the country and abroad. Australian cricketer Brett Lee recalled his memorable collaboration with the singer, remembering her as a timeless musical icon.
In recognition of her immense contribution to Indian music, the Maharashtra government has announced plans to set up a music academy in her name.Asha Bhosle’s legacy continues to resonate through her timeless songs, leaving behind an unmatched impact on Indian music and cinema.
