Shillong, April, 19 :The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has announced that it will begin a series of protests across the state from April 22, with the first phase set to start from Motphran in Shillong.
VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said the party will hold public meetings across Khasi-Jaintia Hills, expressing concern over what he described as the government’s rigid approach on several key issues.
According to Basaiawmoit, the protests will focus on a range of matters affecting the public. These include ongoing concerns related to recruitment processes under the District Selection Committee (DSC) and the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), as well as issues raised by teachers.
Environmental concerns are also expected to feature prominently, particularly the ongoing debate surrounding the proposed tourism project at Lumpongdeng Island in Umiam.
The party indicated that the movement will begin from Motphran and gradually extend to other parts of Khasi and Jaintia Hills in the coming days.
Basaiawmoit also said that the VPP stands in support of residents living along the Assam border, stressing that there is a need for concrete action on such issues rather than relying solely on official statements.
