Shillong, April 20 : Ahead of its planned protests starting April 22, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) has released a list of eight key demands, intensifying its stand against the Meghalaya government on multiple issues.

The demands, highlighted through a campaign poster, cover employment, governance, land, and environmental concerns.

At the centre of the agitation is the call to cancel the proposed tourism project at Lumpongdeng.

The eight demands put forward by the VPP are:

  1. Immediate cancellation of the Lumpongdeng project to protect land and the environment.
  2. Clean and transparent recruitment processes, with independence for DSC and MPSC.
  3. Protection of teachers’ rights and review of policies affecting them.
  4. End to the appointment of retired individuals, with more opportunities for youth.
  5. Safeguarding public land and stopping its misuse or transfer.
  6. Stronger measures to prevent illegal entry and protect border residents.
  7. Opposition to coke and cement factories due to environmental and health concerns.
  8. Survey and action against illegal settler

The party has said these issues reflect growing public concerns and will form the basis of its upcoming agitation.

The announcement comes days after VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit stated that protests would begin from Motphran in Shillong and expand across Khasi-Jaintia Hills.

The movement is expected to bring multiple local issues into sharper political focus in the coming days.
