SHILLONG : Meghalaya took a major step in its push to expand the State’s IT and digital services sector after StaffFlex Resolutions LLP signed an agreement to lease space at Shillong Technology Park-II, becoming the first confirmed company to operate from the new facility.
The agreement signing took place during the NASSCOM Industry Leaders’ Meet 2026 held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong.
The programme was organised by the Information Technology & Communications Department in collaboration with NASSCOM and brought together senior industry representatives, technology firms, skilling institutions, and government officials.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who attended the event and chaired a round table interaction with industry leaders, said Meghalaya’s IT journey has been built gradually over many years and stressed that long-term ecosystem development remains the government’s priority.
“I have been trying to build this momentum for many years. Things do not happen overnight, but when I look back, it has now been 18 years since I first engaged with this sector as IT Minister in 2008,” Sangma said.
He admitted that progress in the sector had slowed for nearly a decade but said the government renewed its focus after 2018.
“When I returned as Chief Minister, we again started working in a focused manner to strengthen the IT ecosystem and bring investment into the sector,” he stated.
The Chief Minister said the completion of Shillong Technology Park-II and the upcoming IT Park in Tura are part of a broader effort to position Meghalaya as a competitive destination for technology and business process management services.
“Technology cannot survive in isolation. You need infrastructure, skilled manpower, partnerships, and confidence from industry players. That ecosystem building is what we are trying to achieve,” he said.
During the interaction, industry leaders discussed the need for faster policy implementation, improved ease of doing business, stronger startup support systems, and future-oriented workforce training.
Representatives from companies including Wipro, TaskUs, Infosys BPM, Tech Mahindra, Alorica, Concentrix, and Luminous Infoways participated in the discussions alongside NASSCOM officials. Several participants stressed that the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and automation is changing the nature of IT and BPM jobs, making future-ready skilling increasingly important.
Industry representatives suggested introducing training in areas such as AI systems, prompt engineering, cyber hygiene, compliance management, and digital fundamentals to better prepare students and young professionals for emerging job markets. Participants also recommended closer collaboration between industry and educational institutions to ensure skill development programmes match future employment trends rather than only current demand.

Sangma said the government remains committed to supporting long-term growth in the sector instead of focusing only on ceremonial agreements.
“We are not interested in signing MOUs only for optics or headlines where nothing happens afterwards. Our focus is on practical outcomes that create real opportunities for the youth,” he said.
The Chief Minister also invited continued engagement from technology companies and industry stakeholders, assuring that the government would continue supporting the sector’s expansion.
“I am not saying we can solve everything immediately, but we will walk this journey together and support the sector in every possible way,” he added.
The programme also included sessions on industry-academia collaboration, skilling initiatives, and Meghalaya’s digital infrastructure expansion.
Officials also highlighted ongoing improvements in connectivity, governance systems, and technology infrastructure aimed at attracting investment and creating employment opportunities in the State.
