NEW DELHI : Ryndia silk from Meghalaya was showcased at Delhi Fashion Week 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, bringing the state’s traditional handloom to a national fashion event.
The collection was presented by Shillong-based designer Batkyntilin Mawthoh and weaver Iaineh Khymdeit from Ri-Bhoi. Their work combined Ryndia’s traditional character with contemporary clothing and designs.
The presentation also featured celebrity dancer and performer Kanchan Chakma as the showstopper for the Ryndia collection. Meghalaya’s cultural traditions were represented through references to the Khasi, Garo and Jaintia communities. The wider programme also included a Manipuri dance performance and presentations representing different parts of the Northeast.
The showcase was part of International Reinvent Northeast Season 8, organised by the Delhi Fashion Club. The initiative brings designers, weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs from the Northeast to fashion and cultural platforms outside the region.
The event gave Ryndia silk a national runway presence while putting the work of Meghalaya’s weavers and designers alongside contemporary fashion. Ryndia is traditionally woven in Meghalaya and is known for its distinctive texture and durability. Its use in contemporary clothing has also opened opportunities for designers to present the textile beyond traditional garments.
The programme was supported by the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) and the Northeast Council (NEC) under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, according to the organisers. PRIME Meghalaya was also associated with the programme.
The Delhi presentation brought together handloom, fashion and cultural performances in a single programme, with Ryndia remaining the central Meghalaya element on the runway.
