SHILLONG : Visitors heading towards Sohra on September 4 will have to plan around morning traffic restrictions, with several roads closed for the 5th Sohra Half International Half Marathon.
The restrictions will be in place from 4:30 AM to 10 AM, covering stretches leading into Sohra as well as connecting roads used by travellers from Shillong and surrounding areas.
Among the affected routes are the Mawkdok-Sohra road from Laitsohpliah near Meili Resort, MawKma, Laitmawsiaŋ-Laitrynggew, Dainthlen Junction, Khliehshnong, Laitkynsew-Sohra via Mawmluh and Lad Sohbar-Sohra road.
The timing is particularly relevant for tourists and other travellers who normally leave Shillong early in the morning for Sohra. The administration has advised those planning journeys on Friday to adjust their travel plans to avoid getting caught by the restrictions.
The closure will apply to all vehicular traffic, while emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders will be allowed through.
The restrictions are limited to the morning period, meaning normal travel arrangements can resume after 10 AM, subject to any further instructions from the authorities.
The public notice was issued by the Sohra Civil Sub-Division on August 31.
