SHILLONG — The Sutnga Parish Men’s body in East Jaintia Hills has rejected a report claiming that its members met Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to extend support to NPP candidate Dr DRL Nonglait in the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election.

In a statement issued on October 2, President Emanlang Pala, General Secretary Merciful Sutnga and Public Secretary Dameriki Paslein said the meeting with Dhar was to seek assistance for various requirements of the Men’s Organisation within the parish, and not to extend support to the NPP candidate.

The clarification came after Ka Shlem / NE Media Hub reported that members of the Sutnga Parish had met Dhar and expressed support for Nonglait ahead of the by-election.

The organisation said it works for the welfare of the Church and, as residents of Meghalaya, has every right to approach the Deputy Chief Minister for assistance.

It has now asked the publisher to retract the report and stop its circulation on social media and other platforms in Khasi and Khasi languages, saying the report had shocked and distressed members of the parish.
