
SHILLONG — The Shillong Bypass truck collection controversy has now triggered a wider reshuffle in the East Khasi Hills police, with 15 personnel transferred and posted across police stations, outposts and traffic branches.
The order issued by the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police on October 1 covers inspectors, UB sub-inspectors, head constables and UB constables, bringing changes to several key police and traffic postings.
The action follows allegations raised by the Khasi Students’ Union that police personnel were collecting money from trucks at Mawkhanu and Thangshalai along the bypass. The KSU had circulated video footage in support of its allegations.
The controversy had already led to four police personnel being suspended, while the Officer-in-Charge of Diengpasoh Police Station was transferred and a departmental inquiry ordered, while temporary police sheds at Mawkhanu and Thangshalai were also dismantled..
Inspector Herwood Thabah has been posted as Officer-in-Charge of Laitumkhrah Police Station, replacing WP Inspector Lily Nongkhlaw, who has been moved to Sadar Police Station.Inspector Dawanoo Lakiang, who was heading the Lumdiengjri Traffic Branch, has been transferred to the Laban Traffic Branch. Inspector Tenny G. Momin will take charge of Lumdiengjri Traffic Branch.
Among the UB sub-inspectors, Binode A. Bamon has been posted as Officer-in-Charge of Diengpasoh Police Station, while Gabby L. Mawlong has been posted to Jhalupara Outpost. UBSI Tikaram Chettry has been transferred from Laban Traffic Branch to Madanriting Traffic Branch. UBSI George Dkhar has been posted to Mawlai Police Station, while UBSI Sylvanus Sylliang has been posted to Diengpasoh Police Station.
Five other personnel, including head constables and UB constables, have also been moved between Diengpasoh Police Station and Jhalupara Outpost.
The transferred personnel have been ordered to report to their new postings immediately and submit compliance.
