SHILLONG — Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has directed government officials to act on several issues raised by residents during a CM-Connect meeting at Rongara in South Garo Hills, including drinking water shortages, flooding and the poor condition of a key road.
Residents from Lower Nekora raised concerns over inadequate drinking water supply and sought an examination centre for Board examinations. They also asked the government to address flooding at Lower Nekora Market, located near the playground.
The condition of the Ampanggre–Wasogittim road also came up during the meeting. Following the complaint, Sangma directed PWD officials to prepare an estimate for the first phase of the bridge, repair the road and begin the work without delay. Sangma said some matters could be addressed immediately, while others would require examination before decisions could be taken.
He directed officials from different departments to record the issues raised during the meeting and take action wherever possible.
“While I will issue directives for matters that can be resolved immediately, there are other issues that require review before necessary action can be taken,” Sangma said. He also highlighted drinking water as a priority, saying the CM-Connect programme had given him a clearer understanding of problems faced by remote villages in South Garo Hills.
“CM-Connect has enabled me to understand the hardships faced by the most remote villages of South Garo Hills,” Sangma said, adding that he would work to ensure drinking water reaches every household in the villages.
Residents also sought renovation of the Bungalow at Moheshkola and improvements to Jujolgre LP School, where a leaking roof and collapsed wall have affected the school building.
During the programme, Sangma distributed Maternal and Child Care kits to beneficiaries. The scheme was launched in Siju-Rongara and is scheduled to be expanded across Meghalaya.
