SHILLONG : The latest Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report has placed Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma fourth among Northeast chief ministers in terms of declared assets, with a self-declared wealth of ₹14.06 crore.
The findings are based on the election affidavits submitted by all 31 sitting chief ministers across the country.
Among the five chief ministers from the Northeast, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu tops the list with declared assets worth ₹332.56 crore, making him the region’s wealthiest chief minister. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio follows with ₹46.95 crore, while Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared assets of ₹35.16 crore.
With assets of ₹14.06 crore, Conrad Sangma is ranked fourth in the region, while Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha is fifth after declaring ₹13.90 crore. Sangma’s declared assets are just ₹16 lakh higher than Saha’s.
The ADR study also shows a significant difference between the Northeast and the national picture. Across India, the average declared assets of the country’s 31 chief ministers stand at ₹118.07 crore, far above Sangma’s declaration.
The report is based entirely on information provided by the chief ministers themselves in their election affidavits and offers a snapshot of the financial disclosures made by India’s serving state leaders.
