Young Man Scammed by Fake Facebook Loan Company, FIR Filed at Patharkhmah PS

Nongpoh, Apr 15: A young man from Umkadhor village in Ri-Bhoi district has reportedly been cheated by fraudsters posing as a loan provider on Facebook under the name “Bajaj Finance Loan Company.”

The victim, identified as Shemborlang Syngkli, said the incident occurred on April 13 after he came across a Facebook advertisement offering loans. Believing it to be genuine, he applied by submitting his name and phone number.He later received a call asking how much he wished to borrow.

He said he wanted a loan of ₹1 lakh.The callers then asked him to submit KYC documents, including Aadhaar card, EPIC, PAN card and bank account details. After submission, he was informed that his loan had been approved.

However, he was asked to pay ₹1,250 as a registration fee and over ₹4,000 for insurance.

The amount was paid through Google Pay.“They asked for more money even after I made the earlier payments,” the victim said.Later, a person identified as Monaj Pal along with another accomplice allegedly demanded an additional ₹6,500 as GST.

Suspecting fraud, the victim refused to make any further payments.On April 14, he filed an FIR (Ejahar) at Patharkhmah Police Station.Police said several people have fallen victim to similar online loan scams and noted that such cases are often difficult to trace.

People should be cautious of such loan offers on social media,” the victim said.
