West Jaintia Hills Police solve double murder; three accused arrested

JOWAI : West Jaintia Hills Police have solved the murder of two men whose bodies were recovered in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills, with the arrest of three accused persons following a joint operation with Assam Police.

The victims were identified as Damehi Mulieh (28), son of Durka Mulieh, and Sholey Pale of Ialong (Luti Tuber), West Jaintia Hills.Police said the breakthrough came on July 31, when Jowai Police received information that Gumrah Police in Cachar district, Assam, had detained a Maruti Alto K10 (ML05 AG 0285) along with two men found in possession of the vehicle.

A police team from the Phramer Traffic Cell rushed to Assam, coordinated with the local police, completed legal formalities and brought the suspects to Meghalaya for questioning.

Meanwhile , the family of one of the deceased informed investigators that the seized vehicle belonged to the victim. Based on the information, Jowai Police registered a case of vehicle theft and murder under Sections 103(1) and 140(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police arrested Dapjingkmen Paslein (26) of Lakasein village and Samuel Lakai (25) of Umkyrpong village, both in East Jaintia Hills, on July 31. Further investigation led to the arrest of Duniwankmen Sutnga (26) of Khaidong village on August 4.

All three accused have been produced before the court. Police said the investigation is continuing to establish the complete sequence of events and gather further evidence.

West Jaintia Hills Police also acknowledged the assistance provided by Gumrah Police, saying the prompt detention of the vehicle and suspects played a crucial role in solving the case.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activity by dialling the emergency helpline 112.
