SHILLONG — The Staff Nurse recruitment at MCH Nongstoin has hit the brakes, with the West Khasi Hills District Administration ordering a formal inquiry into allegations that candidates were being asked for money for appointments.
In a letter dated (September 30) to the VPP State Youth Wing, Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak said the administration had taken the allegations seriously and constituted a two-member inquiry committee to examine the matter.
The committee comprises West Khasi Hills SP H. Kharkongor, MPS, and E. Lyngdoh, MCS, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate.
The DC said integrity, transparency and merit would be maintained in the recruitment process and that any act of corruption or illegal demand would be dealt with under law.
No result or final selection list will be published or released until the inquiry is completed and the matter has been thoroughly resolved, the administration said.
The administration has also warned candidates against touts, middlemen and anyone claiming they can influence the selection process. Candidates have been asked to report any illegal solicitation directly to the District Administration or the inquiry committee during office hours.
The DC said a public notice had also been issued on the matter, advising candidates and citizens to stay away from individuals claiming influence over the recruitment process.
“Necessary action as per law will follow upon the submission of the inquiry report,” Nayak said in the letter.
The move follows allegations by the VPP State Youth Wing concerning recruitment for contractual Staff Nurse posts at Maternal and Child Health Hospital, Nongstoin. The youth wing had alleged that candidates were being asked to pay money for appointments and had sought intervention from the authorities.
The recruitment results will remain withheld until the inquiry is completed.
