SHILLONG — Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday flagged off three Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) to take healthcare services to remote villages in Sohra, Pynursla and Baghmara.
The three units will cover 93 villages and reach more than two lakh people, with a doctor and paramedic assigned to each vehicle.
The units are part of the government’s Smart Village programme and are intended to provide basic medical services closer to communities that have limited access to healthcare facilities.
The initiative uses mobile teams and technology to extend healthcare services beyond existing hospitals and health centres.
Sangma said the success of the programme would depend on the services delivered on the ground rather than the launch itself, with the teams expected to reach communities, examine patients and provide treatment.
The units will now begin services across their respective areas.
