SHILLONG — Three separate infrastructure projects worth over ₹2.09 crore were taken up in Thangbuli on Saturday, covering a new government LP school building, playground improvement and digital learning facilities.
Education Minister and Amlarem MLA Lahkmen Rymbui laid the foundation stone for the Thangbuli Government L.P. School building under Mission Education, Phase IV, with the project costing ₹70.18 lakh.
The Thangbuli Village Playground will also be upgraded with a covered sitting gallery and ancillary facilities under a ₹1.22-crore project. The two projects together account for nearly ₹1.93 crore in new infrastructure.
Rymbui also inaugurated the Children and Adolescents Library and Digital Infrastructure, developed under SRES-BID during 2024-25 at a cost of ₹17.20 lakh.
Speaking at the programme, Rymbui stressed education, skills development, sports and community participation, urging students and young people to use the facilities available to them.
“Young people must make use of available opportunities and strive towards self-reliance,” he said.
The event also saw the opening of the 1st Amwi Higher Secondary School Knock-Out Football Tournament 2026-27, linking the new sports infrastructure with a youth football competition.
The school project is being taken up under Mission Education, while the digital library and infrastructure were implemented under SRES-BID during the 2024-25 period.
