SHILLONG — The upcoming recruitment of staff nurses in West Khasi Hills has come under scrutiny after the VPP State Youth Wing alleged that candidates were being asked to pay ₹4 lakh for appointments, with names of two persons allegedly linked to Nongstoin MLA Gabriel Wahlang also surfacing in one candidate’s account.
The allegation comes ahead of personal interviews scheduled for September 29 and 30 for 60 candidates shortlisted after the written examination at Nongstoin College on September 21.
The VPP State Youth Wing, led by president Marbud Dkhar, said it approached the Director of Health Services on Monday seeking suspension of the interview process until the allegations are examined.
The youth wing said a candidate told its representatives that he had been asked for ₹4 lakh and had already paid ₹1 lakh. It further claimed that several other aspirants had reported similar approaches.
Wahlang has denied knowledge of any demand and said he had never asked anyone to pay money for a government job.
He said he would seek clarification from the two persons whose names were mentioned.
The VPP youth wing has called for the recruitment process to be put on hold pending an inquiry.
