SHILLONG — Meghalaya’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has entered its final phase, with 19,07,182 electors from the draft roll now parked for final publication, according to the latest review by the Chief Electoral Officer.
Chief Electoral Officer B.D.R. Tiwari on September 29 reviewed the progress of SIR 2026 with Deputy Commissioners, District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. A separate meeting was also held with representatives of recognised national and state political parties to discuss the latest progress and directions from the Election Commission of India.
The draft electoral roll contains 21,69,243 electors, against which 6,51,735 notices were generated. Of these, 6,51,066 notices have been delivered, while 619 remain pending.
The hearing process has moved well into its final stretch, with 5,90,784 hearings completed, accounting for 90.65% of the notices generated. Following the prescribed process, 910 electors have so far been found ineligible for inclusion in the final electoral roll.
The CEO directed election officials to closely monitor the remaining cases and ensure their timely disposal while giving concerned electors a fair opportunity to respond.
The revision has also generated a substantial number of mapping-related cases. Of the total notices, 2,22,786 concern No Mapping cases, while 4,28,949 involve mapping discrepancies.
The Election Department has stressed that a No Mapping case, a mapping discrepancy or even receipt of a notice does not by itself mean that an elector’s name will be deleted. Each case has to be dealt with through the prescribed procedure and the latest ECI directions.
The claims and objections period in Meghalaya ended on September 18, leaving the election machinery to complete the remaining statutory procedures before final publication of the electoral roll.
