SHILLONG : The Centre has approved ₹336.62 crore for Meghalaya under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 for the financial year 2026-27, a development that PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak said would help clear a significant backlog of pending payments to contractors working on the mission.
Marak made the announcement after calling on Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil to convey his gratitude for the sanction. He said the approval would support the continued implementation of JJM 2.0 across Meghalaya and, more immediately, help clear at least one-third of the pending bills owed to JJM contractors in the state. He added that subsequent instalments would be released in due course to ensure the mission continues to run smoothly and on schedule.
The Union Minister also acknowledged Meghalaya’s reform-linked sustainability initiatives under the mission, along with the state’s ongoing efforts to ensure safe and clean drinking water reaches its residents.
Beyond the funding announcement, Marak also used the meeting to seek the Union Minister’s support for the Resubelpara Water Supply Scheme, a project he described as important for ensuring a reliable, safe, and sustainable water supply for residents of Resubelpara.
The Jal Jeevan Mission, launched by the Centre with the goal of providing functional household tap connections to every rural household in India, has been a key infrastructure focus for Meghalaya in recent years, with the state government repeatedly flagging contractor payment delays as a challenge to timely execution. This latest sanction is expected to ease some of that financial pressure and keep ongoing water supply projects across the state on track.
