MUMBAI : Shares of Billionbrains Garage Ventures, the parent company of Groww, came under pressure on Wednesday after a large block transaction worth about ₹2,500 crore changed hands.
Around 12.74 crore shares, representing roughly 2.1% of the company’s equity, were traded through the block deal window. Groww shares fell more than 3% during the session, trading around ₹196 after the transaction. The large trade came a day after reports that early investor Ribbit Capital was preparing to sell part of its holding in the company.
The reported offer had a floor price of ₹195 per share, around 4% below Groww’s previous closing price of ₹203.01. The exact identities of the buyers and sellers involved in Wednesday’s larger transaction were not immediately disclosed. The size of the trade was also larger than the stake sale initially reported on Tuesday.
Ribbit-linked entities held a combined 10.1% stake in Billionbrains Garage Ventures at the end of June. Ribbit Capital V LP held 5.64%, while Ribbit Cayman GW Holdings V Ltd held another 4.46%. The investment firm had backed Groww during its earlier growth phase. A partial exit would allow the investor to realise some gains after Groww’s strong performance since its stock-market debut.
Groww listed in November 2025 at ₹112 on the NSE, after its IPO was priced at ₹100. The company has since grown significantly in market value. Its latest quarterly numbers have also remained strong. Billionbrains reported consolidated net profit of ₹735 crore for the June quarter, an increase of about 94% from ₹378 crore a year earlier.
Revenue from operations rose 66% year-on-year to ₹1,501 crore. The company added around 115,000 net clients during the quarter and said customer retention and product quality had improved. The block deal therefore comes against a background of strong operating growth but also a sharp rise in the stock’s valuation since listing. Groww’s shares remain well above their IPO price despite Wednesday’s decline. The company operates across stock broking, mutual funds, ETFs, derivatives, fixed deposits, lending and wealth management.
Ribbit is expected to face a 30-day lock-up on further sales following the reported transaction.
By the afternoon, five stocks had recorded large block transactions worth more than ₹6,900 crore combined, with Groww accounting for the largest individual trade.
