Vehicle owners across Meghalaya have been directed to ensure proper High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and valid statutory documents as the government prepares for stricter enforcement drives across the state.
Shillong , May 6: The Meghalaya Transport Department has issued a public notice directing all vehicle owners and operators to comply with mandatory High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) requirements and maintain valid vehicle documents.
The notice, issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Transport, stated that several vehicles were found operating without proper number plates or without HSRP affixed on both the front and rear sides, in violation of Supreme Court directives and provisions under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
Authorities also observed that some heavy goods vehicles operating in border areas and outskirts of the state were plying without proper registration plates and valid statutory documents.
The department has instructed all vehicle owners and operators to ensure compliance with the following requirements:
- HSRP affixed on both front and rear sides of vehicles
- Valid Certificate of Fitness
- Valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
- Registration Certificate (RC)
- Valid insurance documents
- Valid road tax documents
- Driving licence of the driver
The notice warned that strict enforcement drives would be carried out across Meghalaya, especially in border areas and vulnerable routes.
Officials said violations could lead to seizure or detention of vehicles, heavy penalties and other legal action under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
The department stated that the directive has been issued in public interest and urged vehicle owners to ensure strict compliance with all legal requirements.
