Meghalaya: VPP defends Delhi visit, revives ‘white ink’ row against Ampareen

VPP questions recruitment transparency, targets Ampareen over past row

SHILLONG : The Voice of the People Party (VPP) Youth Wing has announced that it will begin keeping a close watch on recruitment carried out by different state government departments, claiming it has received inputs suggesting that appointments in some offices may not be fully transparent.

The announcement came as the party hit back at criticism from the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) over its participation in the NEET protest in New Delhi. Rejecting allegations that the Delhi visit was politically motivated, VPP State Youth Wing president Marbud Dkhar said the party travelled to the national capital because students deserved support during a difficult period.

“Some people are calling it politics, but that’s not why we went. Students were demanding justice after the NEET issue, and when reports of police action surfaced, we felt we should stand with them instead of remaining silent,” Dkhar said.

He then turned his criticism towards East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh, saying she should not question the VPP’s intentions while unresolved questions from her own ministerial tenure continue to be discussed. “People haven’t forgotten the white-ink recruitment episode. Before pointing fingers at others, those matters also deserve answers,” he said.

Dkhar also questioned Lyngdoh’s tenure as Agriculture Minister, claiming many farmers continue to face hardships despite repeated government assurances over the years. The Youth Wing president further criticised the NPP for not speaking out over the treatment of protesters in the national capital. He argued that leaders who claim to represent young people should not remain silent when students raise concerns over an issue affecting their future.

Looking ahead, Dkhar said the Youth Wing would begin examining recruitment carried out by different government departments. He claimed information received by the organisation had raised doubts about the fairness of appointments in certain offices. “If every recruitment is being done fairly, there should be no problem with public scrutiny. We will keep watching the process and raise questions wherever necessary,” he added.

The remarks are expected to add fresh political heat to the ongoing exchange between the VPP and the ruling NPP, with recruitment transparency and accountability once again emerging as key points of confrontation.
