Ri-Bhoi police arrest Rajasthan man in fake IPS Officer cyber fraud case

NONGPOH: Ri-Bhoi Police have arrested a man from Rajasthan in connection with a cyber fraud case involving the impersonation of an IPS officer through a fake social media profile.

According to an official press release issued by the Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi District, the accused allegedly created a fake online profile impersonating IPS officer Vivekanand Singh Rathore and fraudulently contacted the victim.

Police said the victim later transferred money to the accused after being deceived through the fake identity.

A case was subsequently registered at Nongpoh Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.

The accused, identified as Jahul Ali, a resident of Kakrali Meo in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, was arrested from Jaipur on May 23 following technical surveillance and sustained investigation by police.

Authorities stated that further investigation into the case remains underway.

In a message shared at the end of the release, Ri-Bhoi Police stated:“Criminals may run, but the law runs faster — Justice always catches up eventually!”
