SHILLONG: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member Winston Tony Lyngdoh has appealed to the public to continue placing their trust in the Voice of the People Party (VPP) and support the party’s candidate, Dr Batskhem Myrboh, in the upcoming MP bye-election.

Speaking during a public awareness meeting organised by the VPP at Langpih market, Lyngdoh urged party supporters not to be influenced by “fear, doubt or confusion” during the election period.

The meeting was attended by several party leaders and local residents, including Nongstoin MDC Juristman Iawphniaw and Mawthadraishan MDC Powell Sohblet.

During his address, Lyngdoh also referred emotionally to the late Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon, whose death led to the upcoming bye-election.

“While he was alive, many of those criticising him today never dared to speak against him openly. Only after his passing have these voices become louder,” Lyngdoh remarked.

He defended the former MP’s political contribution, stating that Dr Ricky had raised several important issues concerning Meghalaya and its indigenous communities during his short tenure in Parliament.

“In barely two years, he brought forward matters affecting our land and people which others could not raise for more than a decade,” he stated.

The KHADC CEM said that the public was capable of judging the late leader’s political journey and contribution for themselves. Turning to the upcoming election, Lyngdoh described Dr Batskhem Myrboh as one of the emerging young faces within the VPP and highlighted his long association with the party.

“He has been part of this movement from the beginning. He is articulate, thoughtful and firmly committed to issues affecting our people,” he said. Lyngdoh also acknowledged that political challenges and criticism would continue as the party grows stronger but insisted that the VPP leadership would remain firm.

“No matter the pressure or attacks, we will not retreat and we will not allow destructive forces to weaken the interests of our land and our people,” he declared.

Expressing confidence ahead of the election, Lyngdoh said the support shown by the public across different regions continued to strengthen the party’s morale and direction.
