TURA : Lok Bhavan in Tura was given a cleanup ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, with local organisations joining hands to prepare the venue for the August 15 flag-hoisting ceremony.
The cleaning drive was organised by the A·chik A·song Environment Enthusiastic Society (AAEES), with assistance from MBOSE Principal Director Rikse R. Marak, MCS.
Members of the Durama Motor Sports & Adventure Club (DMAC) and the Garo Students Union (GSU) also took part in the drive.
Participants cleared lawns, removed bushes and unwanted vegetation, painted walls and cleaned the surrounding areas of Lok Bhavan.
The drive was aimed at getting the venue ready for the Independence Day programme while also encouraging greater civic responsibility and awareness about keeping public spaces clean. The participating groups appealed to residents, particularly young people, to take greater responsibility for their surroundings and avoid dumping garbage in public areas.
The organisers said keeping Tura clean should not be limited to special occasions, but should become a shared responsibility among residents.
