
SHILLONG — Students and young people from Wapung Block took part in a wide mix of cultural, academic and sporting competitions as the two-day Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP) 2026 concluded at Dkhiah West Community Hall on September 11.
The programme brought together participants from schools, colleges and youth groups for events ranging from folk dance and music to science, writing, quiz, painting, talent shows and tug-of-war.
Jaintia Eastern College emerged as one of the stronger performers, winning the One Act Play and Talent Show (Group) competitions. Ephatha Society took the top spots in Folk Dance and Talent Show (Group), while Little Star Secondary School won both the Quiz and Science Mela.
Don Bosco College also had multiple winners. Robito Sangriang secured first place in both the Flute and Story Writing competitions, while other participants from the college finished among the top three in several events.
In the individual categories, first-place winners received ₹3,000, with ₹2,000 for second and ₹1,000 for third. Group winners received ₹5,000, ₹3,000 and ₹2,000 respectively.
The programme was organised by the East Jaintia Hills District Sports Officer in collaboration with the Wapung C&RD Block office under the theme “Young Meghalaya, Shaping Tomorrow.”
The next block-level CM-YEP programme will be held on September 22 and 23 at Latyrke Community Hall for students and youth from Saipung C&RD Block.
