SHILLONG : The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (MPMCC) on Thursday lodged an FIR at Sadar Police Station against a YouTube channel over alleged defamatory remarks directed at MPCC president and former Shillong MP Vincent H. Pala.
MPMCC president Joplin Shylla said the complaint was filed against Ronnie Rani, who operates the YouTube channel Ka Jingshisha (The Truth).
According to Shylla, the channel carried remarks referring to Pala as a “snake” and a “leech”, descriptions she termed offensive and defamatory.
“We have come to file an FIR because derogatory comments were made against our president, Bah Vincent H. Pala. He was called a snake and a leech. Such language is unacceptable,” Shylla told reporters.
She said members of the Mahila Congress were shocked after watching the video and claimed the remarks extended beyond Pala to other Congress leaders.
“The attacks were not limited to Bah Pala alone. Statements were also made against several present and former Congress leaders. We strongly condemn the language used,” she said.
Shylla further argued that personal grievances should not be aired through public platforms in a manner that targets individuals.
“If anyone has a personal issue, it should be dealt with personally. Public platforms should not be used to insult people by calling them names such as snake or leech,” she added.

Legal counsel Kynpham Kharlyngdoh said the complaint was filed over a video titled “Statement against Congress candidate Vincent H Pala byelection 26”.
“We have filed an FIR against both the YouTube channel and the video. We have also approached the Superintendent of Police and requested that the matter be investigated according to law,” Kharlyngdoh said.
He noted that the issue comes at a politically sensitive time with the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election approaching.Kharlyngdoh alleged that the video also contained criticism of other Congress leaders, including Mukul Sangma and Sanjay Das, while accusing Pala of damaging the party.
