AMPATI : Forty-five persons with disabilities (PwDs) from Mahendraganj Assembly constituency received financial assistance of ₹10,000 each on Thursday after MLA Sanjay A. Sangma extended support from his personal funds during a programme held at the PWD Inspection Bungalow, Chapahati.

The programme also saw the distribution of computers to Area Employment Councils (AECs) under Zikzak C&RD Block to improve employment-related services and strengthen the functioning of the councils.

The event, organised under the theme “Empowering Abilities, Enabling Opportunities,” brought together officials from the Social Welfare Department, district administration and local institutions.

Block Development Officer of Zikzak, T.K. Marak, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the need to improve opportunities for persons with disabilities while strengthening institutions that connect job seekers with employment schemes.

Project Director (ADC), R.Z.D. Shira, urged the Area Employment Councils to make proper use of the computers to improve public services and ensure better support for people looking for work.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Sangma said people with disabilities deserve equal opportunities and continued support. He said the financial assistance was meant to help beneficiaries facing economic hardship while encouraging greater inclusion in society.

He also hoped the computers would improve the efficiency of the Area Employment Councils and help them provide better services to unemployed youth across the block.

District Social Welfare Officer Z.R. Marak proposed the vote of thanks, bringing the programme to a close.
