SHILLONG : 14-year-old Garo boy was found unconscious with serious injuries after being allegedly assaulted near Bansara Eye Care Centre in Laitumkhrah on the night of August 22.
The boy, who lives with his family at the Member Hostel government quarters in Shillong, was later taken to Civil Hospital before being shifted to Supercare Hospital, where he remains admitted.
According to the FIR lodged by his father at Laitumkhrah police station, an unidentified person called him around 9.30 pm using his son’s mobile phone and informed him that the boy had been injured. The caller reportedly also said that an emergency call had been made to 108.
By the time the father reached the Bansara Eye Care Centre area, his son had already been taken to Civil Hospital. Doctors reportedly found him in critical condition, with bleeding from his head, nose and mouth.
The family was advised against shifting him to another hospital or taking him to Guwahati because of his condition.
The boy had left home around noon, telling his family that he would remain within the MLA Hostel compound. His father later tried calling him several times but received no response.
“I have no idea as to who my son was with at the time of the incident,” the father stated in the FIR, seeking an investigation into the assault and action against those responsible.
The Garoland State Movement Committee’s Pedaldoba unit has condemned the incident and demanded the immediate arrest and strict punishment of those involved.
Unit chairman Rimjen Sangma described the attack as a serious threat to the safety of children and appealed to civil society and the public to stand against such violence.
