SHILLONG — The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has moved to shut down WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages and other social media platforms using the party’s name without its knowledge or permission.
The party said it has come across groups created and operated in the VPP’s name without approval, raising concerns over information being circulated as if it came from the party. Members and supporters have been repeatedly instructed not to create such platforms without authorisation, but the party has now issued a public appeal to make its position clear.
Those who have created or are managing unauthorised VPP-branded groups and pages have been asked to dissolve them.
The party also urged its members, supporters and the public to follow announcements and updates issued directly by its leadership. It said unofficial platforms using the VPP name could create confusion, spread misinformation and blur the line between authorised party communication and material posted by individuals.
The appeal was issued by VPP spokesperson Dr A. W. Rani, who said the party wanted the public to rely on its official channels for information.
