SHILLONG : Regular government employees in Meghalaya can now access part of their salary before payday under a new Early Salary Advance (ESA) Scheme launched by the state government.
The facility is meant to help employees deal with urgent financial needs without waiting for their regular salary date.
Finance Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar D launched the scheme on August 19 in the presence of senior officials from the Finance Department and NIC Meghalaya.
The scheme covers the wider government workforce, including teachers, health workers, administrative staff and field officers.
The government has appointed InstaPe as the service provider, while Suryoday Small Finance Bank will provide the lending facility. The Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries under the Finance Department will oversee implementation.
The government has described the initiative as part of its effort to improve financial access and financial well-being among employees. It has also linked the scheme to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s Vision 2032.
InstaPe founder Atul Gupta said the company was honoured to be selected for the programme and would work towards providing financial services to Meghalaya government employees.
The exact amount an employee can access, applicable charges and repayment conditions have not been detailed in the information released on the launch.
