“One North East” push gains momentum as NPP eyes big win in Assam elections

Shillong, April,14 :National People’s Party (NPP) leader James K. Sangma on Tuesday expressed confidence in the party’s performance in the Assam elections, calling the campaign “extremely satisfying” despite “certain incidents of violence, which have been very unfortunate, especially in Haflong.

We are very confident that the NPP will be performing extremely well in all the three seats that we have been contesting,” Sangma said

On the party’s broader vision, he stressed the importance of a unified regional platform.

“As we speak, One North East is taking shape… all of us must come together, work together. In unity lies our strength,” he said

Sangma pointed to recent political developments as signs of momentum.

“These are all part and parcel of that movement,” he said, referring to leaders from across the region joining the initiative.

He added that ideology matters more than naming the platform.

“The name is not as important as the ideology or the thought behind it,” he said.

“It’s about action, and that action has started as we speak.”

While elections have temporarily slowed discussions, he expressed confidence in the future of the initiative.

Highlighting the need for action, Sangma remarked,

“As we go forward, you will see many other prominent and influential political leaders of the North East wanting to come under this common umbrella,” he said.
