
Pynursla,Aprl 21: A landslide in Mawlieh along the Shillong–Dawki road on April 20 has claimed the lives of two people after a vehicle was crushed under massive boulders.
The incident took place around 5:00 PM when heavy rocks fell onto the road, hitting a white Bolero pickup (ML 05 E 5514).
The victims have been identified as Wanteibor Khongthohrem( 46) from Lumwahnai and Wanbor Nianglang(40) from Pynursla.
Both were inside the vehicle when it was struck.The impact left the vehicle badly damaged and trapped under debris.Rescue and recovery operations were challenging due to the size and weight of the boulders.
Local residents and authorities worked together at the site to clear the debris.A specialised road construction team was later brought in, and dynamite was used to break the rocks in order to retrieve the vehicle.
The Shillong–Dawki stretch is known for landslides, especially during unstable weather conditions. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
