
Mumbai, April 12: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday in Mumbai following a cardiac arrest, marking the end of an extraordinary era in Indian music.
She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai after her health deteriorated on Saturday. Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed her passing on Sunday afternoon.Her mortal remains will be kept at her residence in Lower Parel to allow the public to pay their last respects. The last rites will be conducted with full state honours at Shivaji Park crematorium on Monday evening.
A Musical Journey Spanning Generations
Asha Bhosle began her career at a young age, recording her first song “Chala Chala Nav Bala” for a Marathi film in 1943. She entered Hindi cinema with “Saawan Aaya” in Chunariya (1948), while her first solo Hindi film song came in Raat Ki Rani (1949).Over the decades, she became one of the most versatile voices in Indian music, effortlessly moving between genres.
