Meghalaya govt plans Rs 9 Crore Housing project for IAS and MCS officers

The Meghalaya government has moved ahead with plans to build new housing complexes for IAS and MCS officers in Shillong, with the total project cost nearing Rs 9 crore.

SHILLONG : The state government is planning to construct new residential buildings for IAS and MCS officers behind the Taraghar area in Shillong.

Tenders for the project have already been floated by the PWD (Buildings), covering two separate apartment complexes.

One of the proposed buildings is meant for IAS officers and carries an estimated cost of over Rs 4 crore. The work includes demolition of an old Assam-type structure, site preparation, retaining walls and parking arrangements.

Officials said the complex will be a G+3 RCC structure and will include a lift with a capacity of 13 persons.

Another apartment block, planned for MCS officers, is expected to cost around Rs 4.25 crore. Apart from residential units, the project includes internal roads, gates, water storage facilities and other supporting infrastructure.

The building is also expected to include rainwater harvesting facilities, street lighting, air-conditioning provisions and DG backup.

The project is part of the government’s push to improve accommodation facilities for officers serving in the state capital.
