The launch programme witnessed the participation of village leaders and elders from Domsaw, Sohparu, Nongsohlait and Nongjyllieh, alongside officials from the Directorate of Census Operations, Block Office Nongstoin, supervisors and field enumerators.

Te programme was chaired by Shri Edilbert Lyndem.

Launching the exercise, Deputy Commissioner Smti Hema Nayak said accurate house listing would play an important role in ensuring reliable census data and effective planning for future government policies and development programmes.

She urged supervisors and enumerators to carry out the process carefully and sincerely while stressing the need for public cooperation during the exercise.

“A proper and accurate house listing process is very important for the successful conduct of Census 2027,” the Deputy Commissioner said while addressing officials and local residents.

She also encouraged villagers to support field staff during the enumeration process so that the data collection exercise could be completed smoothly and efficiently.

Officials said the House Listing Operation forms the foundation of the census process, as it helps identify households, residential structures and basic details required before the main population enumeration begins.

The programme also served as an awareness initiative to inform residents about the importance of the census and the role communities play in ensuring accurate and complete data collection.

Local participation during the launch reflected growing public involvement in the exercise, with village authorities and community elders extending support to the census teams deployed in the district.

Authorities expressed hope that cooperation between officials and local communities would help ensure the successful implementation of Census 2027 activities across West Khasi Hills.
