SHILLONG — Meghalaya has put a single counselling system in place for 138 MBBS seats available to students from the state for the 2026-27 academic session, bringing seats across different institutions and quotas under one merit-based process.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare has issued a Combined Counselling Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) through the Meghalaya State Counselling Authority for Medical Education (MSCAMA). Seat allotment will be carried out using a unified merit list prepared from candidates’ NEET-UG 2026 All India Rank.

The 138 seats have been divided into two parts. Part I covers 96 seats available to Meghalaya through the Central Pool and state quotas in other states, while Part II covers 42 State Quota seats at the newly established Shillong Medical College. The 96 seats under Part I include 53 Central Pool seats, 14 seats at NEIGRIHMS, 16 at RIMS Imphal, 10 in Assam Government Medical Colleges and three in Tripura medical colleges.

The category distribution for these seats provides 39 seats for Khasi and Jaintia candidates, 39 for Garo candidates, 14 Open/Unreserved seats and four for Scheduled Caste/Other Scheduled Tribes (SC/OST).

Shillong Medical College has a total of 50 MBBS seats sanctioned by the National Medical Commission for 2026-27. Of these, eight are under the All India Quota, leaving 42 seats for the Meghalaya State Quota. These 42 seats will follow the state reservation policy, with 40% for Khasi and Jaintia candidates, 40% for Garo candidates, 15% Unreserved and 5% for SC/OST.

Admission will remain strictly tied to NEET-UG 2026 merit and the applicable state reservation rules. Candidates must have passed Class XII or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as required subjects and must be at least 17 years old by December 31, 2026.

Applicants will have to register online through the MSCAMA portal and submit documents including their NEET scorecard, Permanent Residential Certificate, category certificate and academic mark sheets. Physical verification of documents will also be conducted during counselling. The SOP allows up to four rounds of counselling, including a Stray Vacancy Round. It lays down procedures covering seat acceptance, resignation, filling of vacancies and tie-breaking where candidates have the same merit.

There is also a service obligation attached to state-sponsored medical seats. Selected candidates must enter into an agreement with the Health Department to serve the Meghalaya government after completing their postgraduate studies.

Students admitted through the State Quota will additionally be required to undertake at least five years of public medical service in government or mission hospitals under the Mandatory Medical Public Service Policy.MSCAMA will operate a counselling control room and technical help desk throughout the admission process.

The authority will publish official notifications, instructional material and FAQs through its designated channels and monitor social media for misinformation and fraudulent admission websites.

The department has advised candidates to rely only on official MSCAMA and Health Department channels for counselling schedules, seat updates and other admission-related information.
