Wailadmiki Shylla Health Minister Meghalaya

SHILLONG : Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Tuesday strongly condemned the alleged irregularities and paper leak linked to the NEET examination, saying the incident has deeply affected students and parents across the state.

Calling the controversy “highly unfortunate,” the minister said the issue has shaken the confidence of thousands of students who spent months preparing for one of the country’s most competitive medical entrance examinations.

“This does not affect only a few individuals. Students across Meghalaya have been demoralised. Parents and candidates who worked hard for the examination are deeply disappointed,” Shylla said.

Since the NEET examination is conducted centrally by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the minister urged the Union Government to introduce stricter safeguards and faster action to prevent such incidents from happening again. He said repeated controversies surrounding national examinations are damaging public trust in the system.

“The central government must ensure stricter laws and swift action. Incidents like these should not happen again,” he stated.

Shylla also referred to recent remarks by the Union Education Minister, who assured that strict measures would be taken to address the issue and prevent future irregularities.

At the same time, the Meghalaya minister appealed to students not to lose hope despite the controversy.

“This is not the end. Students should stay motivated, remain focused, and continue preparing,” he said, describing the upcoming re-examination as a “second chance” for many candidates.

While he did not specify the exact number of affected students from Meghalaya, Shylla confirmed that a fresh examination date has been scheduled for June 21.

The NEET paper leak controversy has sparked outrage across several parts of the country, with growing demands for transparency, accountability, and stronger protection of examination systems.
