SHILLONG — UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh has indicated that West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh could face disciplinary action after making public remarks critical of the party and its leadership.
Metbah said the party has taken note of the statements and will discuss the matter before deciding what action, if any, should be taken.
“One of the MLAs of the party has given some statement which is very much against the party and we are taking note of it,” he said. The UDP president, however, maintained that all 12 party MLAs remain together despite the growing differences within the party.
“For me, I consider all the 12 MLAs are together as one,” Metbah said, adding that they remain “under one umbrella, under one roof, and we are under one party.” He said the leadership was also working to resolve doubts and misunderstandings among the elected members rather than allowing the internal differences to widen.
Paul Lyngdoh had publicly questioned the party’s leadership, pointing to the departure of senior figures including former UDP president Bindo M. Lanong, former working president Jemino Mawthoh and VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit.
Metbah declined to directly defend his own record when asked about criticism of his leadership.
“It’ll be better for others to do that on my behalf,” he said, explaining that he avoids speaking highly of himself.
He said his focus remained on carrying out whatever responsibility he holds, whether as UDP president, MLA or minister, with “honesty and sincerity” and delivering according to public expectations.
