South West Garo Hills holds third Birth-Death registration, Aadhaar camp at Garobadha PHC

SHILLONG : Residents of Rerapara C&RD Block had another opportunity to access essential civil documentation closer to home, as the South West Garo Hills District Administration held the third instalment of its one-day registration drive at Garobadha Primary Health Centre on Tuesday, covering both Birth and Death Registration and Aadhaar enrolment or updation.

Funded under the Chief Minister’s Catalytic Fund for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the camp allowed eligible residents to walk away with Birth and Death Certificates issued on the spot, alongside Aadhaar-related services handled at the same venue.

Additional Deputy Commissioner D. B. G. Momin, Assistant Commissioner M. K. Wankhar, and Rerapara Block Development Officer Cheman D. Shira attended the proceedings, joined by staff from the Certificate Branch, Aadhaar enrolment operators, an Executive Magistrate, and other department representatives who helped keep the drive running smoothly.

By bringing these services directly to Garobadha, the administration cut down the distance residents would otherwise have to travel to access basic civil registration and identity documentation a recurring hurdle for many households in rural pockets of the district.

Groundwork for the event began well before Tuesday, with the district coordinating alongside the District Medical and Health Officer to line up ASHA workers for beneficiary mobilisation, secure a Medical Officer’s presence at the PHC, and arrange logistics such as separate service rooms, seating, power supply, and drinking water for attendees.

Anyone availing the services was asked to carry standard supporting documents proof of identity and residence among them depending on which service they needed.

With this third round now complete, the district administration says the broader push to widen civil registration coverage, expand Aadhaar access, and bring citizen services within easier reach will continue, forming part of its larger contribution toward meeting Sustainable Development Goal targets across South West Garo Hills.
