SHILLONG – Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has laid the foundation for an RCC bridge over the Didak River along the Tikrikilla–Jangrapara road in Garo Hills, as the government highlights faster travel times and expanding road connectivity across Meghalaya.
Sangma said the Baghmara–Rongara journey has now been reduced to around 30 minutes, while travel between Rongara and Ranikor has fallen from nearly three hours to one hour.
According to the Chief Minister, Meghalaya has constructed more than 3,500 km of roads over the past eight years, averaging around 1.1 km every day.
The government is also expanding infrastructure beyond roads. Sangma said more than ₹200 crore has been sanctioned for 56 C&RD blocks over the last four years, covering schools, block offices and healthcare infrastructure.
