TURA – More than a month after its Block Development Officer retired, Tikrikilla is still without a regular officer, with AHAM warning that the vacancy is affecting development work, fund clearances and public services.
The A-Chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has urged the Meghalaya government to appoint a new BDO or assign additional charge to another officer until a regular appointment is made.
AHAM Bawagre Sub-Unit president Briwat Sangma said the vacancy was affecting administrative and development work in Tikrikilla.
The previous BDO, Daplin D Sangma, retired on July 31, according to the letter addressed to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Department Secretary and Director Sibhi Chakravarthy Sadhu on September 3.
The letter said the absence of a designated BDO had affected the functioning of the block, with crucial public services, fund clearances and various schemes reportedly being temporarily halted.
AHAM has asked the government to either fill the vacant post or place another officer in additional charge so that administrative work does not remain stalled while a regular appointment is awaited.
Sangma urged the government to intervene “as soon as possible”, saying the vacancy was affecting projects and administrative processes in Tikrikilla.
The letter also raised concerns over the continuation of development activities in the block, where coordination is required for rural infrastructure, public services and welfare schemes.
