Meghalaya’s economy has nearly doubled over the past few years, with the state government now aiming to achieve similar growth again by 2032.

SHILLONG, May 8 : Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday said Meghalaya’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown from around ₹30,000 crore in 2018 to nearly ₹60,000 crore, describing it as a major economic milestone for the state.
Speaking at a public programme, Sangma said the government is now working towards doubling the state economy again by 2032 through continued investments in education, infrastructure, tourism and youth-focused initiatives.According to the Chief Minister, the state’s development strategy is centred on long-term economic growth while creating opportunities for young people across Meghalaya.
He said investments in roads, connectivity, entrepreneurship, hospitality, sports and digital infrastructure are beginning to contribute to the state’s overall economic expansion.Sangma also highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening sectors such as tourism, agriculture and small businesses to improve livelihoods and generate employment opportunities.
“As we continue investing in our youth and infrastructure, we are confident that Meghalaya can achieve even greater economic growth in the coming years,” he said.
The Chief Minister further stated that several large-scale projects, cultural events and tourism-related initiatives are part of a broader effort to position Meghalaya as a stronger economic and investment destination in the Northeast.

The government has repeatedly maintained that sustained investment in human capital and infrastructure will remain central to Meghalaya’s long-term development plans.
