GUWAHATI : Assam Police has issued a public advisory urging schools to exercise greater caution while sharing photographs, videos and personal information of children on social media platforms..
In the advisory released on Sunday, authorities warned that cyber criminals and online predators are increasingly misusing children’s images and personal details for activities including cyberbullying, identity theft, grooming, sextortion, AI morphing and child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Schools have been advised to avoid posting identifiable photographs or videos of students online and to use safer alternatives such as group shots, back-facing images, blurred faces or illustration-based visuals.
The advisory also cautioned institutions against sharing full names, class details, ID cards, phone numbers, locations or real-time updates related to school events, trips and outdoor activities.
Assam Police further asked schools to ensure that all child-related content uploaded online is reviewed by authorised staff before publication.
Authorities also stressed the need to immediately remove any content if concerns are raised by parents, guardians or children themselves.
The advisory additionally called on schools to sensitise teachers and staff about online risks involving minors, particularly in the growing era of AI-generated image manipulation and digital exploitation.
The awareness message was shared in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), UNICEF India and Samagra Shiksha Assam.
